At O.P.I. with work with an incredible organization called Oceana they are dedicated to keeping our waterways free from plastics it is crucial for maintaining a healthy ecosystem. Plastics can harm marine and freshwater life, break down into microplastics, and even enter the food chain. Here are some steps we can all take to address the issue:

 

1.  Reduce Plastic Use Opting for reusable items like bags, bottles, and containers. Avoid single-use plastics when possible.

 

2.  Proper Disposal and Recycling  Make sure to dispose of plastics correctly and recycle whenever possible. Support and advocate for better recycling systems in your community.

 

3.  Clean-Up Efforts Participate in or support local clean-up events for beaches, rivers, and lakes. Every bit helps!

 

4.  Support Legislation  Advocate for policies and regulations that aim to reduce plastic production and improve waste management.

 

5.  Educate and Raise Awareness  Spread the word about the impact of plastics on the environment and encourage others to make more sustainable choices.
